Primary Purpose of the Position
The VP of Commercial is responsible for leading the Commercial organization in all aspects of strategic development and planning, to both expand existing retail and food service partnership as well as develop new, strategic, volume-driven relationships with key customers, particularly those in large FS/OP segments such as Fast Casual, Sports & Entertainment, and Leisure & Lodging. A seasoned commercial & people leader, the individual will shape both the commercial strategy and organization, setting short, mid, and long-term targets and ensuring accountability across the team. The VP will set and lead the team to execute aggressive revenue targets to grow the aluminum cups business.
Essential Responsible Areas:
- Build winning strategies to deliver on annual growth plan through the acquisition of new customers and expanding relationships with existing customers
- Lead a team to identify and target customers, aligned with overall Ball corporate and commercial strategies; develop a deep understanding of the customers’ business, markets, needs and expectations and Ball's competitive position across foodservice and retail.
- Develop and execute a growth strategy within segments by setting and executing plans based on priorities
- Develop comprehensive strategies and pricing proposals in coordination with cross-functional teams; champion revenue growth management to drive EVA
- Work closely with other division teammates to identify and develop ‘One Ball’ solutions across entire portfolio
- Partner with peers across functions and divisions to open new sales channels, spur growth in this segment for Ball, and drive long-term profitability
- Lead team to continue to expand distribution in retail and, importantly, accelerate velocity via strong 5P execution and engagement with key customers
- Provide President and Cups leadership team with a complete picture of strategy, sales, and contract implementation
- Drive data-based decisions through rigorous analysis of POS and IRI data, ensuring entire commercial team is upskilled and disciplined in leveraging data for action
- Direct the consistent execution of sales methodology, processes, tools, and procedures coupled with continuous improvement in reporting, analytics, forecasting and performance metrics
- Work closely with IBP director to accurately forecast demand and drive culture of proactive communication and gap closing
- Lead broker and distributors to actively sell by setting and monitoring targets
- Set the vision for the commercial team that supports and forwards Ball corporate and Ball Aluminum Cup visions
- Demonstrate flexible leadership to lead and develop diverse personalities and experience levels
- Represent the voice of the consumer & the customer to drive innovation and product portfolio and assortment decisions
Position Requirement & Competencies:
- Broad training in a related field usually acquired through a college degree level education or work-related experience
- Job related experience for 12+ year(s) minimum, 10+ years of leadership experience strongly preferred
- Min 10 years in Commercial leadership role; successful leadership in commercial foodservice of at least 5 years
- Experience in Retail CPG sales strongly desired
- Exceptional thought and inspiring leadership, strategic thinking, & collaboration skills across different levels
- Self-starter that understands the complexity and process of developing the commercial capability within an organization, and has experience motivating and developing a team of different backgrounds and levels
- Strong and demonstrated negotiation and relationship management and ability to connect with and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders across both retail and food service/on premise segments
- Outstanding presentation and negotiation skills and ability to interface and influence at the most senior levels, both internally and externally
- Consistent focus on people development, using a highly collaborative approach to develop team into industry experts and provide roadmaps for career development
- Experience managing technology in a large, complex environment
- Proven project planning and management expertise
- Analytical and financial prowess with ability to evaluate every deal with both a customer and EVA focus
- Working knowledge of the following areas:
- Market data (IRI) and customer POS data analysis to inform decision making
- Customer relationship management tools including Salesforce.com
- P&L competency, including all key commercial lines of the P&L such as trade and advertising spend
- Food service and retail customer contracts and detailed terms and conditions
Compensation & Benefits
- Hiring Salary Range: $ 250,000 - $285,000 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
