Position Overview:


As a Transportation Specialist, you are a key member of the Logistics team, reporting to the Manager, Logistics.  You will contribute to the success of Ball by supporting Ball’s transportation needs in order to insure customers are being serviced properly and cost is being managed.   You will provide  coordination and technical support to the division for Full Truckload (FTL) and less than truckload  (LTL)requirements as directed.

 

Your Key Areas of Responsibility Include: 

 

  • Manage transportation requirements for a region  which includes multiple plants, warehouses, approximately 50 carriers and brokers moving approximately 175K annual truckload moves.
  • Develop carrier relationships and recommend carriers that can provide service in each differing set of circumstances, including negotiation and approval of spot rates when contractual carriers to not meet needs.
  • Lead weekly meetings with plants, warehouses and third party vendors to keep all updated and ensure transportation needs are met for current and future needs and issues.
  • Resolve complex freight problems requiring negotiation, multiple party buy-in, and understanding of goals around transportation management and how each area works to achieve those goals.
  • Responsible for routing guides and savings plans. Provide support and make adjustments in situations where savings are not being realized. Heavy involvement in cost management of transportation spend.
  • Provide guidance to Ball’s third party transportation management company around topics such as spend and service. Act as an escalation point if conflicts arise between third parties, carriers, plants, warehouses.
  • Negotiate and approve freight rates, as well as resolve carrier freight payment/administrative issues; administer carrier incidents and claims.
  • Facilitate the movements of international freight with plants/customers/freight forwarders.
  • Work with Commercial team on customer logistics issues and data gathering for new business proposals or contract renegotiations.
  • Work with dunnage team to insure all plants have transportation plans to maintain correct dunnage levels. Work with customers on any issues they may have transporting dunnage material.
  • Provide support for situations that require involvement of the Ball Trade Compliance team. 


Required Experience and Skills:  

 

  • Broad training in a related field usually acquired through college or work-related experience.
  • 3-5 years of job related experience in the full truckload (FTL) industry with demonstrated skills:  
    • Rate Negotiation
    • Conflict management
    • Customer Service
    • Communication
    • FTL models including live loads, drop trailers, dedicated fleets, shuttles, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software products,  specifically Excel.
  • Proficiency working with:
    • ERP system (such as JD Edwards)
    • Transportation management systems (TMS)
    • Transportation tracking systems (such as FourKites) and international freight
  • In-depth working knowledge of freight payment systems (such Williams & Associates), freight payables, and freight cost structures including accessorials.  
  • Working knowledge of Trade Compliance and specific situations that require escalation to an internal trade compliance team.  

 

Compensation & Benefits

  •  Hiring Salary Range: $74,600 - $104,160 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)

  • Hybrid On-Site Work Environment: Based in Colorado, this position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site for three (3) or more days per work week (with core collaboration days of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Travel and local commute between Ball locations and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
