Senior Engineer, Front End Process SME

Position Overview:

As a Senior Engineer, Front End Subject Matter Expert (SME), you are a key member of the Process Optimization /Technical Efficiencies Team;  reporting to the Front End Process Engineering Manager.  You will contribute to the success of Ball by provide technical support for the front end process manufacturing engineering function.

Your Key Areas of Responsibility Include:

• Provide technical support for the Front End (FE) process and related  information to plants, licensees, joint ventures, customers, and engineering in application of materials, chemical process, and mechanical technology.
• Participate in installation, troubleshooting, failure investigations, and corrective action of material, process, and mechanical problems.
• Plan and perform development projects for materials and mechanical improvements, prepare cost estimates and submittals. Develop objectives, project criteria and budgets. Initiate and evaluate actions to meet agreed objectives and criteria.
• Investigate, originate, and implement improvements for the container manufacturing process for the purpose of increased production, reduced product cost, and improved quality.
• Serve as a liaison and technical subject matter expert (SME)  to other disciplines: manufacturing, project, container, and closure engineering, sales & marketing, quality assurance, EH&S, and sourcing.
• Maintain an awareness of technical progress in materials, support areas, and production equipment. Initiate technical meetings to review problems and seek improvements.
• Implement programs to introduce and qualify new materials, products, processes, and/or equipment in plants and with our customers. Originate test packs, and lead acceptance tests and evaluations through various lab services.
• Develop and participate in technical liaison with customers and suppliers to improve products, processes, and equipment.
• Originate specifications for equipment, materials, and processes to support manufacturing or marketing needs.
• Maintain and promote a safe and secure work environment and maintain awareness and comply with all environmental management requirements.
• Participate in project implementation, installation, check-out, tune-up and start-up of new equipment.
• Participate in the audit, rebuild, and troubleshooting of existing equipment.

Required Experience and Skills: 

• Bachelor’s degree in a Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering discipline preferred or  equivalent work-related experience and education.  
• 5 year(s) minimum job related experience in manufacturing or metal forming environment.  
• Demonstrated Skills :
  • Proficiency with standard office software such as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams). 
  • Familiarity with an ERP system such as JD Edwards.
  • Familiarity with running a trial of new product/processes and working with innovation teams.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to collect and evaluate data and identify trends. 

Preferred Skills and Experience: 

• 5 years experience working with cuppers, trimmers and /or bodymakers  in a beverage packaging manufacturing.
• Experience using AutoCAD.
• Experience managing small projects (up to $2 million; including budget management, vendor management, and implementation of capital equipment). 

Compensation & Benefits

• This position is eligible to be REMOTE in the U.S., preferably with a home base within a 50-mile radius of a major airport, due to travel requirements. Travel expectation 50-60%.  
• Hiring Salary Range: $ 85,100 - $118,760 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
• This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
