Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Sr. Engineer – Chemical Process Project Support Engineer, BPNCA supports the Beverage Packaging North & Central America (BPNCA) Chemical Process Engineering team in identifying and implementing chemical process best practices, projects and training for the Ball Packaging plants in North & Central America.
This role is tasked with successfully achieving divisional goals related to Chemical Process Engineering Key Process Indicators (KPIs). The Sr. Engineer – Chemical Process Project Support Engineer, BPNCA focuses on achieving KPIs / executing improvements in the Chemical Process Applications found in can-making operations. The Chemical Process improvements are focused on efficiency gains, chemical process optimization in Soluble Oil Filtration systems, Washers, RO/DI systems, Waste water treatment systems, Filter technology and Sustainability processes. The Manager Chemical Process Engineering, BPNCA has a dotted line connection to the Principal Engineer – Chemical Process Project Support Engineer, BPNCA and provides Standards, Best Practices, and Guidance.
Essential Responsible Areas:
- Identified as a Sr. Chemical Engineer/Subject Matter Expert (SME) with regard to Soluble Oil Filtration systems, washers, RO/DI systems, waste water treatment systems, filter technology and sustainability practices that are either used or have the potential of being used in a can-making plant. Elevated technical aptitude with regard to SOF, Washers, Waste water systems, RO/DI systems and Dry Off Oven Equipment.
- Create / Understand / Implement the Global Standards that lead to the “Best-in-Class” Chemical Process Support for soluble oil filtration systems, washers, RO/DI systems, Waste water treatment systems, filter technology and sustainability practices. Utilize external industrial applications, guiding theoretical principles, and personal technical experience to identify, vet, and roll out Global Standards pertaining to Chemical Process optimization.
- Support BPNCA Chemical Process Engineering Manager, BPNCA Chemical Process Engineering Team, and the Global Chemical Process Engineering stakeholders in the pursuit and adoption of “Best-in-Class” Soluble Oil Filtration systems, Washers, RO/DI systems, Waste water treatment systems, Filter technology and sustainability practices Global Standards and spearhead opportunities for efficiency gains in the Chemical Process Operations.
- Train BPNCA plant employees on process steps and best practices with regard to the efficient use of Soluble Oil Filtration systems, Washers, RO/DI systems, Waste water treatment systems, Filter technology and Sustainability practices. Expert in machine balancing and optimization of various models of Chemical Process equipment. Aid in succession planning in the network by fostering and training junior engineers on the fundamentals of Chemical Process equipment operation and design.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge and utilization of Lean Six Sigma in all phases of the implementation of Soluble Oil Filtration systems, Washers, RO/DI systems, Waste water treatment systems, Filter technology and Sustainability practice Global Standards. Identify key performance indicators for each chemical process and develop standard plans to track and react to data accordingly.
- Develop / Plan / Execute capital projects that support the implementation of soluble oil filtration systems, washers, RO/DI systems, waste water treatment systems, filter technology and sustainability practices Global Standards as a contributor of the greater BPNCA Chemical Process Engineering team. Call upon vast technical expertise to execute high caliber projects with minimal direction. Develop complex project scopes from the ground up, foster strategic internal and external partnerships in the planning phase, and execute projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Convert guidance and data from Global Chemical Process Engineering into strategy and action plans for the BPNCA region in a collaborative effort with BPNCA Chemical Process Engineering team. Engage the plant teams and actively support the roll-out of said strategic plans. Identify and engage third-party resources to support and execute, as required.
- Collaborate with supply base to identify new chemical process technologies with a focus on process optimization opportunities; feed new information to the Global Chemical Process Engineering group and Manager, Chemical Process, Projects for consideration in the Global Standards. Recognize external partnerships, alternative technologies, and new process for adoption into the Ball standard network.
- Identify technical resources, both internally in the Ball network and externally with past or future suppliers. Relate openly with plant and executive leadership, while partnering with production and engineering teams to create immediate change. Negotiate with vendors to review scopes, proposals, and service agreements. Aid in the preparation and presentation of high-level strategic reviews and performance updates for the region.
Position Requirement & Competencies:
- Broad training in a related field usually acquired through a college-level education or work-related experience.
- 5+ years minimum of job related experience, including extensive experience in packaging manufacturing.
- Proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Project.
- Strong communication skills - verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of contracts and specifications.
- Experience with program/project management skills as demonstrated through the successful achievement of assigned objectives.
- Exhibit a developmental, entrepreneurial mind set with abstract analysis skills; applicant should be logical, flexible in approach.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute tactically from a holistic thinking/systems perspective.
- Financial literacy and business acumen with the ability to objectively assess projects and meet cost, margin, and profitability targets.
- Specialist in the mechanical and thermal subjects of machine design and well-versed in heat transfer systems.
- Technical expert in thermal operations. Experience with Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers, Ovens, Gas Trains, Boilers, Hot Water Heaters, and Heat Recovery Systems.
Compensation & Benefits:
- This position is eligible to be REMOTE in the U.S., with a home base within a 50-mile radius of a major airport, due to travel requirements. Travel (60-70%) and local commute between Ball locations in US, Mexio and Canada and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
- Hiring Salary Range: $82,300 - $116,390 USD. Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. *
- This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
