Position Overview:
As the Project Engineer-Facilities and Production Support, you are a key member of the North & Central America (NCA) Project Engineering team, reporting to a Senior Project Engineer- Equipment. You will contribute to Ball’s success through involvement with the design and layout, installation and commissioning of can manufacturing and associated process support equipment.
In this role, you will have responsibility for planning all aspects of small-to-medium scale projects from concept phase through to completion, including budgeting, equipment and service quoting, determining resourcing requirements and supporting equipment installation and commissioning.
Your Key Areas of Responsibility Include:
- Work collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team, maintaining a flexible, hands‑on approach and contributing across project tasks as required to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Work in partnership with regional director / plant manager / plant engineer / other subject matter experts to establish full scope of project or root cause of problems.
- Troubleshoot existing equipment and work to find cost-effective solutions to improve performance.
- Work cooperatively with Senior Project Engineer and contracted suppliers to develop full design and approval of layouts, generation and/or validation of schematics using relevant company standard drawing tools such as Auto-Cad.Generate specifications and project specific criteria, working in partnership with other functions within Ball Engineering group where necessary.
- Upon completion of project: ensure all drawings, documentation and software are updated to as-built ; copies are provided to the plant and a copy is held on record at the company's designated archive location.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for Original Equipment Manufacturer Manufacturers (OEMs) and contractors to ensure deliverables meet Ball specifications, standards, and project requirements.
- Coordinate with business functional specific resource and relevant local authorities or official bodies to secure any permits, permissions or necessary design approvals.
- Develop bid documentation (e.g. Request for Proposal) and obtain competitive quotations from multiple suppliers and contractors etc., to ensure that the project is completed within approved budget.
- Participate in selection of suitable contractors with sufficient skills and competence who can meet the requirements of the project in hand, and provide guidance to chosen contractor during implementation phase of project.
- Support commissioning: Full involvement in the testing, start up and debug of equipment or system until such time as it has reached its design efficiency - this may involve modifications to an original design and updates to documentation
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s in an Engineering discipline or equivalent work-related experience in manufacturing maintenance, line support or manufacturing facilities projects.
- 2 year(s) minimum experience in troubleshooting line support or facilities engineering projects in automated manufacturing and/or high-speed manufacturing.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 60%.
- Demonstrated skills:
- Work experience utilizing AutoCAD.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite tools.
- Efficient and collaborative communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills that demonstrate a ability to build strong working relationships across the company including plant leadership.
- Project management skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks.
- Mechanical working knowledge or familiarity with some or all of the following:
- Utilities and Mechanical Support Systems / Equipment, including Industrial Vacuum Pumps; Compressed Air Systems
- Cooling Water Systems / Chillers; Hot Water / Steam for Heat Exchange
- Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers / Dust Collectors
- Mist Collection
- Process Ventilation
- Process Scrap Collection and Compaction
- HVAC
- Bulk Storage (Chemical / Coating / Lubricants)
- Natural Gas Supply
- Water Supply (Domestic/Potable, Process/RO)
- Waste Water Treatment / Sewer; Fire Protection; etc.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- High speed manufacturing experience in the aluminum can making industry.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Expected Hiring Salary Range: $75,400 - $105,290 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)

- This position is eligible to be REMOTE in the U.S., with a home base within a 50-mile radius of a major airport, due to travel (up to 60%) requirements. The preferred location for this role is our Westminster, CO campus, when not traveling, the successful candidate may be expected to adhere to the Hybrid On-Site Work Environment schedule of working on-site for three (3) or more work days per work week (with core collaboration days of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).
