Position Overview:
As the Environmental Engineer, Senior, you’re a key member of Environmental, Health & Safety team for Beverage Packaging North & Central America (BPNCA), reporting to a Manager, Environmental. You will contribute to Ball’s success by providing technical environmental support with the goal of maintaining continual compliance, determining cost-effective compliance solutions and developing long-term compliance strategies.
Your Key Areas of Responsibilities Include:
- Initiate, prepare and review for approval prior to submittal to environmental regulatory agencies the following: permit applications, reports, compliance plans, emission information, questionnaires, variance requests, and general correspondence concerning plant operations.
- Provide technical support to plants, licensees, joint ventures, and internal engineering groups.
- Negotiate with regulatory agencies on environmental matters directly affecting the business and coordinate comments to regulatory agencies on proposed environmental regulations.
- Prepare for and testify at hearings of regulatory boards, agencies, and cases for judicial review and other court ordered actions.
- Track federal, state, and local environmental regulations that potentially impact the company and advise BPNCA and plant management of compliance requirements.
- Participate in efforts to establish and maintain liaison with government agencies.
- Initiate and investigate plant environmental, health and safety issues, research alternative solutions, conceive and implement solutions.
- Prepare and effectively deliver environmental, health and safety presentations as required to internal and external customers.
- Coordinate and effectively delivers environmental, health and safety training courses and assist in the development of such courses, as required.
- Conduct environmental, health and safety assessments to evaluate plant compliance with regulatory and company programs, and identify operations, work practices, or materials which may present an unacceptable health or environmental risk.
- Evaluate results of assessment reports and provides recommendations to decrease incident/accident rates improve compliance position, increase operations or department efficiency or reduce costs.
- Establish environmental management systems based on principles contained in the ISO 14001, 45001, ANSI Z-10 standards, U.S. 40-CFR regulations and permits (not all inclusive).
- Assist in the collection of industrial hygiene samplings as directed by Industrial Hygiene personnel.
- Accompany state and federal regulatory inspectors on environmental related plant inspections following established inspection procedures.
- Complete routine visits to plants and assist as required/requested on matters of EHS compliance.
- Must be able to work overtime on a regular basis and/or be on call as directed by leadership.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Broad training in a related field usually acquired through college or work-related experience
- 4 year(s) minimum job -related experience in environmental plant support for environmental compliance & permitting (air, water, waste, stormwater).
- Demonstrated ability to interpret regulations and apply independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation of standard environmental procedures and criteria.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing and Lean principles and procedures.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Professional Engineer (P.E. ) license.
- Extensive experience with Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Title V permitting and RTO source testing/stack testing.
- Experience building and maintaining strong professional relationships with government agency personnel.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Hybrid On-Site Work Environment: Based in Colorado, this position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site for three (3) or more days per work week (with core collaboration days of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Travel (30-40%) and local commute between Ball locations and other possible non-Ball locations will be required.
- Hiring Salary Range: $85,100 - $118,760 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
- This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
