Position Overview:
Develop sustainability and public affairs strategies for North & Central America (NCA). Apply subject matter expertise to the development of NCA commercial strategies, programs and activities to position aluminium as the most sustainable substrate and facilitate improvement in Ball’s sustainability credentials. Advise the Region President and commercial leaders, VP Regional Strategy & Marketing for Ball Corporation on the development of business strategies. Represent Ball at conferences and trade shows as a subject matter expert on packaging sustainability. Develop effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, this role helps drive product penetration and supports Ball Corporation in achieving its sustainability targets.
What Will You Be Responsible For?
- Develop regional sustainability and public affairs strategies to create a market environment that favors aluminium and supports region efforts to commercialize the sustainability credentials of our products. Engage with national trade associations and other industry groups in order to develop and execute industry-wide promotion of metal packaging.
- Partner with key stakeholders to shape packaging and packaging waste-related policy opportunities; act as a subject matter expert and thought leader and inject Ball’s perspectives into state-level policy-related discussions, ensuring that we are seen as a trusted and leading contributor to policy formation.
- Create partnerships and programs to increase metal packaging recycling rates in North America.
- Work with commercial leaders and their customers directly on creating strategies, plan and serve as subject matter expert to further mutual busines objectives and mutual growth through our product portfolio.
- Engage with non-governmental agencies and other thought leaders to position the can as the most sustainable package; promote sustainability credentials of our products and our company throughout the region.
- Advise key functions of Strategy, Marketing, Communications and the Global Sustainability Center of Expertise (COE) to create impactful internal and external communications, influencing and inspiring others to take action, and ensuring that Ball remains a sustainability leader by providing detailed information pertinent to region and tied to global/corporate messaging.
- Direct the development of regional sustainability goals in the areas of Product Stewardship, Operational Excellence, Talent Management, and Community Engagemen; regularly report progress against goals.
- Partner with regional Sourcing and Operations teams to embed sustainability strategy into procurement and plant operations activities.
- Translate sustainability initiatives into new business opportunities through coordination of marketing and innovation programs to address customers and Ball’s business and sustainability goals.
- Provide thought leadership on corporate and product sustainability at conferences and with customers, retailers, suppliers and other external stakeholders.
What Are We Looking For?
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in sustainability, business administration or related degree.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience doing sustainability strategy, advisement and actioning sustainability measures.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Demonstrated skill in creating and integrating business and sustainability strategies.
- Demonstrated skill in furthering partnership with internal stakeholders and customers to grow mutual business objectives.
- Demonstrated skill in leading a team and cross-functional projects, work and initiatives.
- Demonstrated skill in representing organizations in multiple formats and forums (internally, externally in variety of engagements) with organization's best interest.
- Working knowledge of modern sustainability strategies, environment in packaging, etc.
- Working knowledge of innovative solutions to organizational and customer needs.
- Working knowledge of country regulations and policy environment related to climate change, recycyling, circularity, etc.
- Language fluency: English required; preferred fluency in Spanish

Compensation & Benefits:
- The preferred location for this role is our Westminster, CO campus. Relocation benefits will be considered.
- Hybrid On-Site Work Environment: If based in Colorado, this position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site for four (4) or more days per work week (with core collaboration days of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Travel and local commute between Ball locations and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
- Hiring Salary Range: $123,000 - $180,020 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
- This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
