Primary Purpose of the Position:

The State and Local Tax, Accountant is primarily responsible for participation in tax compliance, audit defense, resolution of notices from tax authorities, and research to ensure company compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations for both direct and indirect US state and local taxes.  This role will also assist in minimizing the company’s liability for these taxes through informed application of tax laws, regulations, and court cases.  Further, the role will also assists the broader tax team by participating in other areas of corporate taxation including but not limited to US federal, and international as needed.

 

Essential Responsible Areas:

  • Participates in preparation and/or review of various U.S. state and local tax calculations and reporting requirements including but not limited to income, sales and use, excise, and property taxes
  • Participates in tax audit defense planning, and voluntary disclosures
  • Participates in preparation and/or review of state and local income and franchise tax returns.  Accumulates and processes data necessary to generate accurate filings and supporting schedules
  • Participates in the accumulation and reconciliation of data for apportionment and allocation purposes
  • Participates in tax research and documents conclusions
  • Participates in the preparation of estimated U.S. income and franchise tax payment/withholding calculations and related filings
  • Assists with the quarterly and year-end income tax provision process, including preparation of state income tax provision calculations, support, and analysis.
  • May assist in the preparation of the company’s consolidated US federal income tax return and related projects
  • Serves as a liaison between the corporate office, subsidiaries, divisions, and plants in matters relating to the above taxes to ensure appropriate compliance and coordinate appropriate journal entries
  • Maintains and tracks tax calendar to ensure all state and local income, sales and use, and other returns are filed in a timely manner and are organized
  • Participates in preparing requests for tax rulings and other formal tax communications
  • Collaborates with third party service providers as required on compliance matters

 

Position Requirement & Competencies:

  • Broad training in a related field usually acquired through college degree level education or work-related experience.
  • Job related experience for 2 year(s) minimum preferred
  • Preparation of state income and franchise tax returns
  • Experience with state tax research
  • Previous Big 4, large CPA firm or corporate experience preferred

 

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Hiring Salary Range: $60,900- 91,080 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
  • Other Compensation:   This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
