As a Material Handler, you are a key member of the Wakefield Team, reporting to the Stores Supervisor. You will contribute directly to the success of Ball by performing material handling, inventory control, and support activities that enable the plant to meet its production objectives and overall business plans. This role supports safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations within a world-class can manufacturing environment.

 

The Shift Pattern is 4 on - 4 off,  39 hours per week. Every cycle includes 7 rotations 4 on – 4 off followed by 18 days off ( fixed vacation days included ). This shift pattern covers also 1 training day, 2 maintenance days, and 1 crew day.

 

Your key responsibilities include:

 

  • Receive, book in, and issue materials accurately using the computerised SAP system.
  • Transport raw materials, packaging, and finished goods using a Fork Lift Truck (FLT) in accordance with site rules.
  • Ensure correct stock levels and material traceability to support uninterrupted production.
  • Operate and carry out routine checks on a baling machines to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Report equipment faults, defects, or safety concerns promptly and support maintenance activities as required.
  • Take ownership of assigned production lines or material flow areas.
  • Conduct inspections of in-process or finished products to ensure quality targets and specifications are met.
  • Support production teams by ensuring materials are available, correctly stored, and fit for use.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area at all times, adhering to 5S methodology.
  • Perform on-the-job training and coaching for other personnel as required.

 

 Essential experience and skills: 

 

  • Valid Fork Lift Truck (FLT) licence.
  • Good computer literacy.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain processes and tasks.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work effectively as part of a team

 

Desirable experience and skills: 

 

  • Previous experience in a logistics, warehouse, or operational role.
  • Chemical handling training.
  • SAP experience.
  • Mechanical maintenance experience.

 

A manufacturing background is not required, as full training will be provided
