Primary purpose of the position:
Controls Technologist will work on automation and control projects including: initial electrical design and layout; creating drawings; assisting with PLC programming; HMI design and programming; and SCADA systems. This position will assist with troubleshooting/testing/debugging of industrial machinery and electrical systems both, as part of a project scope, and during daily production operations.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Automated industrial machinery PLC logic design, troubleshooting, and in-house construction and commissioning.  Primarily Allen Bradley platforms.
• HMI/touchscreen design and implementation.  Primarily Allen Bradley Platforms.
• Electrical controls system design, from start to finish, including the generation of complete electrical/controls drawing packages, bill of materials, and implementation plan for onsite electricians.
• Drawing modification/creation using AutoCAD
• Design/specification of electrical circuits/components and materials, technical selection, sizing and evaluation of equipment and parts. 
• Review and edit existing drawings.  Maintain an accurate library of in-house systems.
• Participate in pre/post-design reviews.
• On-site support, troubleshooting and commissioning of various hardware devices including: PLC 5, Controllogix, Modicon PLC’s; AB, ABB, Toshiba VFD’s; AB Servos; Digital/Analog field devices; general I/O devices; and inspection camera systems etc.
• Production technical support for new and existing installations.

 

Professional & Education Qualifications:
• High school or GED is requited. Preferred minimum 3 year diploma in engineering technology – Electro-Mechanical or Electronics Technology preferred. Post-Secondary Education College/University or 3 years equivalent of experience in this industry.
• 2 years minimum automation and design experience working with programmable logic controllers, controls installations, VFD’s, remote I/O

Skills:
• Safety conscious and well aware of the hazards of working in an industrial environment, including  working in close proximity to 480vac systems and live mechanical systems.
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team, including mechanical, tooling, electrical and instrumentation.
• Good understanding of Microsoft Office is an asset.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work extra hours to ensure successful project/shutdown completion when required.
• Self-motivated, driven individual with good problem solving skills.
• Working experience and understanding of industrial mechanical system is a significant asset.
• Organized, self-regulated and excellent time management skills required.

Knowledge:
• Solid knowledge of electrical field devices. – limit switches of various types, proximity switches, photo switches, encoders, scanners, etc.
• Good understanding of motor controls, servos and VFDs.
• Good working knowledge of AutoCAD electrical or any similar CAD system.

 

Compensation & Benefits
• Hiring Salary Range: $60,00.00-$90,000.00 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
• Job Grade 9
• Other Compensation:   This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
