Primary Purpose of the Position
Sets up, adjusts and maintains automatic drawn and ironed can line and related equipment; mechanic has primary responsibility for productions and quality on assigned equipment.
Essential Responsible Areas:
- Checks schedule to determine need for changeover or if scheduled maintenance is in order; determines if schedule can be adjusted or permits time for overhaul, repair or readjustments required by equipment.
- Checks machines; analyzes any and all types of mechanical or operational troubles and plans for and takes corrective action; makes necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality.
- Makes changeover by setting up assigned equipment for change in material, size or product or for change in pack; operates equipment to try out changeover.
- Makes repairs or overhauls as required, short of machining parts; replaces worn or damaged parts; retimes machine action.
- Operates equipment to check operation; cleans and lubricates; clears jams; checks water, lacquer, coating, inks and lubricants and adds or changes materials; requests or obtains additional quantities of supplies.
- Performs operator assignments when trying out equipment after repairs, changeovers or extended down periods.
- Examines, tests and measures product from assigned equipment for quality specifications, using appropriate gauges and instruments, and records data; checks product for visual defects.
- Mixes solvents and detergents.
- Makes preventative maintenance check and inspection of assigned equipment; reports findings and takes appropriate action.
- Checks spoilage as to cause and, where possible, takes corrective action; analyzes and records comments regarding cause of production delays on production report or troubles sheet.
- Advises operators on assigned equipment and supply men or truckers servicing equipment of standard operating procedures and requirements.
- Notifies supervisor of any incidents or recurring equipment malfunctions and corrective action taken and of any poor quality material or supplies noted.
- Works with machinist during overhauls on the assigned line as required.
Position Requirement & Competencies:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Troubleshooting skills/experience - Auto Engine repair, Mechanical Aptitude, Disassembles, and rebuilds production equipment.
- Job related experience for 2 year(s) minimum
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Experience working in an industrial environment
- Working knowledge of the following areas: Machine mechanics & Troubleshooting skills
- Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.
- Must follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in the Ball Corporation manuals.
- Thorough understanding of the operating principles of all assigned equipment.
- Must maintain professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge, and skills.
- Works in a manufacturing environment.
- This position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to, high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc.
- Must wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices.
- Works in confined area(s).
