Position overview
As the Electrical Controls & Automation Specialist ,you will contribute to the success of Ball by supporting New Build, New Line and Line Conversion start‑up performance, ensuring correct line set‑up, stable early production, and strong technical capability within the team.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Responsible for line set‑up and control for new plants, new lines, and line conversions.
- Manage can handling through conveyors and elevators, with ownership of a specific process area based on experience.
- Balance machine needs with utilities usage and optimise can flow using sensor devices.
- Focus on efficiency and spoilage during start‑up, with secondary responsibility for utilities, ODM usage, and line transport optimisation.
- Champion a safety‑first culture and ensure all equipment meets compliance requirements.
- Lead equipment start‑up and ramp‑up activities, providing hands‑on technical support during installation, commissioning, and early production.
- Act as the on‑site subject matter expert, troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and process issues in real time.
- Ensure electrical and control systems are installed, tested, and tuned; maintain and repair electrical systems (24V–600V), PLCs, sensors, motors, and VFDs.
- Specialise in Camera Inspection systems, ensuring correct calibration, validation, and operational reliability.
- Deliver structured training to operators and mechanics, and support development of SOPs, work instructions, and training materials.
What are we looking for?
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in can manufacturing and 5+ years in electrical maintenance.
- Electrical qualification with strong knowledge of line control systems and PLC devices.
- Hands‑on experience with can‑making equipment, including set‑up, troubleshooting, and optimisation.
- Ability to train others; Train‑the‑Trainer qualification preferred.
- Strong computer skills for data analysis and reporting.
- English communication skills at a communicative level or higher.
- Experience working in cross‑functional and cross‑cultural teams, with an ownership mindset and focus on continuous improvement.
