Primary purpose of the position:

The jobholder reports directly to the Quality Manager and will liaise closely with the Manufacturing & Engineering departments within the plant and external departments such as Central Graphics & European Graphics and Group Coatings

The jobholders function is to ensure that the plant Graphics activities are organised and implemented and that “Drive for Improvement” is carried out in the Graphics process and the Printer Area. Performs tasks and provides services to support the plant's overall business plans and objectives as directed.


Essential Responsible Areas:

  • Work within the plant systems (E Smart, SAP & SFoL)
  • Assessment of all new & existing design
    • liaising with Central Graphics to ensure pre-press print package is achievable and can be produced Right First Time (includes print plates, rollouts, layout proof, Print proofs, standards & inks)
    • Liaises with graphics on plate/ design issues post production to develop solutions prior to rerun
  • Ensure print package received by plant and put out on line meets the requirements for Right First Time
  • Liaise with ink supplier to validate correct material for designs pre-production   
  • Support the new design production on press – produce & approve master & plant standards as required
  • Liaise with CFF, Sales & Customers for all on site visits –
    • includes customer On site or Virtual approval process
  • Collect data & information on any issues / designs (existing or new) and develop action plans accordingly
    • Communicates KPI information to the plant on a regular basis (CAP, Graphs & Excel)
    • Participates in weekly governance calls with European Graphics
  • Manage the print plate system in plant to include Preparation, Inspection & Quality Assurance.
  • Control of External coatings & Inks on site –
    • Inks & Varnish EVA / KPI’s – Liaison with suppliers and internal departments and use of equipment associated with improving control
    • Trials and Qualifications
  • Liaison with planning and crews to ensure all labels run to budget
  • Assists the Training Manager with Internal trainer for printing, coatings & inks related topics
  • Monitors the Print Process & Identify improvement areas and include in the Corrective Action Plan
    • Carry out Clean & Check Audits, monitor C&C activities
    • Develop JBS’s & SOPs for the Printing and Quality process
    • Create & Update Database for print related equipment   
    • Develop action plans to Improve Quality & Process 
  • Ad Hoc Project work – Deco Camera’s, X Rite, Label Change, etc,
    • Involvement in HFI Reduction projects
  • Covers essential activities for the Graphics Coordinator during absence

Position Requirement & competencies:

  • Professional & Education Qualification   
  • HNC / C&G in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5yrs experience in the Can Manufacturing Industry
  • Lean Six Sigma – Minimum Green Belt



  • Work independently and in a team, effectively maintaining an atmosphere of collective work.
  • Ability to train colleagues in print techniques and processes

  • Knowledge of the range of all equipment and products, as well as standards quality taken at the plant
