Position overview:

 

To improve quality, manufacturing efficiency and reduce production cost of container designs through improved design in their form and formation.
To sustain customers need for new capacity through providing technical support to Capital Projects.


Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Achieve year on year material cost reduction by developing processes, setting specifications and designing tools that allow can light weighting and down gauging of can stock

  • Participate in capital projects through production can and metal forming machine specifications, and tooling design, designation, and procurement.

  • Support the plants drive for improved quality and efficiency and reduced spoilage and operating costs by reviewing tooling design and modifying where appropriate.

  • Assist the senior management of the sector in strategic planning by assessing feasibility cost, and benefit of new projects.

  • Use statistical tools, SPC, Six Sigma, Minitab for development and fault finding purposes

  • Manage projects

  • Respond to customer needs for innovation and differentiation by designing new products and production processes that add value and can be operated within Ball.

  • To improve quality & manufacturing efficiency and reduce production cost of the existing cans through improved can tooling & process designs

  • Participate in capital projects by assisting with specifications of production machines, tool room equipment, tooling, preparing tooling designs, procurement and assisting with commissioning.

  • To develop and perform tests on modified can designs in order to evaluate performance before full line trial

  • Use and working knowledge of various precision measuring instruments

 

Experience required:

 

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering 

  • Six sigma Greenbelt highly prefered

  • Experience in Metal forming / drawing

  • Understanding of Tooling design and its relation to machines and products being formed

  • Experience in High speed Manufacturing processes and development of Customer & Manufacturing specifications 

  • Metals and materials engineering

  • AutoCAD and/or other computer aided drafting and design software highly prefered

  • Project Management Experience

  • Tooling suppliers, and tooling related programmes such as light weighting, tooling care & inspection

  • Process development

  • DWI Process, Steel and Aluminium. 

  • Computer software - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint.

  • Minitab or similar statistical tools desirable

  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills

  • Good influencing skills with collaborative an team player approach

  • Action oriented and results driven

  • Good planning and time management skills

  • Attention to details

  • Ethics and values

  • Fluent in English, another European language desirable
