Position overview:
This is a multi-faceted technical specialist role, covering many complex aspects within the tax and broader finance sphere, including international aspects and supporting/leading, on an ad-hoc basis, both functional and cross functional individuals and teams. The individual must have an ability to engage and influence at all levels across a business, to build strong and effective working relationships and gain trust and credibility quickly. A core part of the role includes, preparing technically challenging corporations tax computations for all UK group entities with the minimum of supervision and providing tax input and review within the preparation cycle for the UK GAAP statutory accounts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Holistically managing the UK corporation tax compliance process from start to submission of the returns.
- Drafting UK tax computations from the SAP TB and undertaking analysis of expenditure etc.
- Detailed analysis of significant capex spend to optimize the UK sub-group’s capital allowance claims.
- Providing strategic and technical insight for opportunities to optimize the UK group tax position (corporate interest restriction and group relief).
- Working with, the broader regional finance team to prepare the tax provisions (current and deferred) for all UK GAAP statutory accounts and engaging with the group’s auditors as required.
- Assisting in the complex and time pressured preparation of the year end and quarterly US GAAP group reporting (for the UK sub-group). Including the preparation of detailed supporting calculations for current and deferred tax.
- Assist with the management of the global coordination efforts for “Country by Country (CBCR)” reporting.
- Assistance with the preparation of certain transfer pricing documentation, including the Group’s OECD Master File and UK/European Local Files.
- Providing support in ensuring that the Group meets its new BEPS Pillar 2 filing obligations.
- Review/complete certain UK sub-group VAT returns (for finance/holding companies, which includes a technical bespoke partial exemption agreement with HMRC).
- Dealing with ad-hoc VAT queries and liaising with HMRC as required.
- Provide support in connection with cash repatriation/intercompany debt/entity rationalization (and other) ad-hoc value added planning projects.
What are we looking for?
- Qualified accountant (desirable ATT/CTA qualification).
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- 5 or more years of post-qualified varied experience working on large multinational corporate tax matters, preferably in-house (though a first move from practice would be considered).
- In depth technical knowledge of UK corporation tax as it applies to large groups of companies.
- UK GAAP tax reporting experience.
- Desirable to have US GAAP tax reporting experience.
- Knowledge of VAT, including VAT reports within SAP (or willingness to develop in this area, including for other indirect tax matters, such as employer taxes/share scheme reporting).
- Strong capability in providing well researched tax technical briefing papers and making any relevant associated recommendations.
- Some knowledge of BEPS Pillar 2 with a view to taking on responsibilities with Ball’s Global filing obligations.
- Expertise with Excel and strong adaptable IT skills.
- SAP/HFM/Alphatax experience (desirable).
- Strong analytical skills.
- Some experience, or willingness to develop, in the area of complex tax planning, whether reorganisations, eliminations, distributions or other similar projects.
