Position overview: 

The role is providing high quality commercial and general legal advice to the Ball Beverage Packaging business in EMEA across a broad range of subjects. This is a legal role providing strategic and proactive advice supporting the delivery of the key business objectives and working with all major customers and suppliers of the business in multiple jurisdictions, as well as supporting Ball Corporation’s global compliance program. The role also requires identification and mitigation of business and legal risk and a considerable requirement to think and advise creatively and independently. The role also involves close working with other in-house lawyers within the region (and globally) and also with the existing network of external counsel. 

Key responsibilities include:

• Drafting and negotiating complex high value/risk customer agreements with Global Key Account and regional customers – working across multiple jurisdictions and cultures. Ensuring contracts deliver our strategic commercial and risk mitigation objectives. Participating in contract improvement activities
• Drafting and negotiating high value international procurement contracts with the key global and regional suppliers of the business to ensure the best possible contractual outcome for Ball
• Advising the business on aspects of EU and National Competition Law in particular with regard to our customer agreements and industry work
• Managing litigation affecting the business
• Supporting the business with intellectual property law advice
• Providing advice to Treasury, Finance, Tax, HR and IT teams located in the region, as required
• Ensuring the region’s compliance with Global and EU Data Protection requirements (GDPR)
• Developing relationships with the network of EMEA plants and functional teams and ensuring legal support is provided to them (personally or through the network of local lawyers)
• Driving the Ball Corporation compliance activities and providing internal training from time to time in accordance with our annual compliance plans
• Advising our Sustainability team on strategic lobbying activities and legislative compliance activities
• Acting as ambassadors for the Ball Diversity and Inclusion objectives.
• Project management/legal representation on steering committees, as required

What are we looking for?

• UK qualified solicitor/barrister (or overseas equivalent)
• Post qualification experience (preferably at least several years in-house experience)
• Commercial law experience essential
• Experience reviewing and managing high value/risk commercial agreements with an international element
• Familiarity with working across multiple jurisdictions
• Demonstrable experience of providing relevant legal advice in a business setting delivering key strategic objectives
• Financial understanding of impacts of legal decisions
• Fluent English language
