Mechanical Lead

Position overview:

As the Mechanical Lead you’re a key member of the Plant Engineering Team, reporting to the Engineering Manager. You will contribute to the success of Ball by leading the Plant mechanical team (Shift mechanical engineers, Toolroom, Utility , Workshop Team, process Engineers) in all the maintenance and process activities in the plant to ensure smooth operation and maintenance of high speed can making Lines and ancillaries. Mechanical Lead will be the Key person driving TPM, SMED and Size changes in the plant. Mechanical Lead will also be responsible for all the Mechanical related safety issue, lean events, capital projects, energy saving, and EIP..

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Drive the Preventive Maintenance program (Periodical, monthly & daily) for the Plant process equipment and auxiliaries. Communicate and implement the maintenance program with production and engineering departments’ personnel. Track Monthly compliance.
  • Plan for Plant shutdowns, plan spareparts for shutdown Maintenance in advance, Execute shutdown maintenance and check effectiveness of shutdowns post startup.
  • Record the maintenance activities done, Maintain Equipment histories. Review job plans frequently and maintain all information up to date and generate required reports.
  • Review the latest version of spare parts and upgrade the equipment under responsibility according with prior approval. Facilitate contact and liaison with foreign suppliers to develop all the tooling/spare parts used for Plant. 
  • Support engineering manager in preparing budget for capital projects and maintenance expense. Execution of all plant projects from the start to completion. Identify and recommend to Manager Engineer AMCs for various equipment and services.
  • Controlling all Maintenance costs within agreed budget costs and strive to meet the maintenance cost / 1000 cans target. Initiate and implement initiatives to reduce maintenance Expenses.
  • Drive size changes and new equipment startups in the plant. Look for innovative, accurate and repeatable foolproof methods for Size changes to achieve vertical startups.
  • Maintain the Process / ancillary equipment in such a condition that quality and hygiene standards are maintained.
  • Comply with Ball Corporation Integrated Management Systems (ISO9001 / ISO14001 / OHSAS18001) & BRC standard.

Experience and skills required:

  • Ability to prioritize workload based upon the plant requirements and KPI’s. Good planning skills, coordination skill and follow-up skill
  • Problem solving & total quality skills. Good understanding of modern lean manufacture technique - SMED, Kaizen 5S, Structured Problem Solving, TPM, Six Sigma etc.
  • Good computer skills – ability to manage via computerized data.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years relevant experience in Plant maintenance in high speed continues manufacturing industry (FMCG / Steel plants / Textiles) with sound maintenance management practices.
  • Experience in Mechanical power Presses / Hydraulic Equipment maintenance / Printing press.
  • Experience in handling LPG, Maintenance of Gas fired ovens, Boilers etc. Gas Certification will be added advantage.
  • ss industry. Good understanding of other modern lean manufacture technique - SMED, Kaizen 5S, Structured Problem Solving, Six Sigma.
  • Knowledge of SAP – maintenance Module will be added advantage.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
