JOB SUMMARY :

The Engineering Manager is responsible for all the engineering aspects of the can making Plant, He will be primarily responsible for Asset care (Preventive and predictive maintenance) of Process and utilities Equipment, Ensure Building and facility are Maintained and will. He is part of BOE excellence team and will Lead PM pillar and other and Lean manufacturing activities in the plant. He will lead all the plant-based capital projects as well. As Management team member, he will be co-responsible for plant deliverables – Productivity, Safety, Quality, Environment, and sustainability. Engineering Manager will have a team of diverse skills and manage Utilities (Water, Gas, and Power), toolroom activities, Millwright and Workshop team, electrical team, Storeroom, and process troubleshooting activities. He will strive his best to achieve plant KPI’s – Reduction of breakdowns through MTTR / MTBF approach, achieve best in class Maintenance spending (repair cost / 1000 cans), Utilities consumption within Budget, Spend allocated capital on time, and achieve inventory reduction in spare parts stores.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Device strategy for site for preventive / predictive maintenance based on business need and budget available. Maintain the equipment in such a condition that quality / safety standards are maintained. Ensuring the maximum efficiency from all equipment and services by means of preventative, predictive maintenance. Track and report Preventive / predictive maintenance compliance. Action plan for deviations in Maintenance compliance.
  • Controlling all engineering costs within agreed budget costs and strive for reduction of maintenance costs. Apply best practices for maintenance Budget control.
  • Preparing capital budget for capital projects and engineering expense. Make Long range capital plan, Preparation of Capital requests, Execution of all plant engineering projects from the start to completion. Keeping abreast of any new equipment or processes that are related to can Making.
  • Responsible for Toolroom, ensure tools for can making process are available on time at good condition. Manage tooling life / inventory and control tools usage.
  • Responsible for Power station / HV/ MV station. Ensure un-interrupted power supply through proper preventive / Predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Responsible for LPG Station. Ensure un-interrupted gas supply through proper preventive / Predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Comply with all legal requirements related to environment including but not limited to noise levels / air emissions / Liquid discharges.
  • Comply with all legal requirements related to safety and occupational health including but not limited to Periodic inspections of Fire protection and firefighting systems, Plant Power system, Lifts, hoists, and material handling equipment and manual handling.
  • Adhere to Ball maintenance requirement related to gas fired ovens and boilers.
  • Manage Upgrades in equipment, Plan and implement annual shutdowns.
  • Responsible for can size changeovers. Implement innovative, accurate and repeatable foolproof methods for Size changeovers to achieve vertical startups.
  • Work closely with supply chain to Identify and award AMCs for various equipment and services.
  • Follow and maintain organization’s SOPs and safe working practices. Comply with Ball’s Integrated Management Systems (ISO9001 / ISO14001 / OHSAS18001).
  • As in-charge of engineering stores, maintain Inventory of all spare parts used in plant. Review inventory levels on periodical basis and ensure the spares are available on time. Have a model storeroom initiative implemented in the spare parts stores.
  • Training & development for engineering staff are put into effect and continuously reviewed, revised and maintained. Provide training to new hires and existing employees on various engineering functions and process as needed.
  • Facilitate contact and liaison with foreign suppliers for Equipment efficiency related issues, tooling, spare parts etc.
  • Develop local service contractors with close coordination of supply chain and manage contractors effectively at site.
  • Lead team in operating with a high level of efficiency, integrity, and enthusiasm, striving to achieve excellence in all endeavors.
  • Lead various EHS programs and initiatives in the organization. Participate in hazards & risk assessment of equipment and processes as technical expert.

 

KPI OF THE ROLE (measurable responsibilities) :

  • Safety performance of his department and overall plant.
  • Breakdown %
  • Maintenance cost / 1000 cans.
  • Utility cost – Gas & Electricity.
  • Maintenance compliance.
  • Capital Projects completion on time.
  • Achieve Budget targets.
  • Spare parts stores inventory.

 

EDUCATIONAL & PAST EXPERIENCE :

  • B.E / BTech / Diploma (with sound experience) in engineering.
  • Certification in Project management is an added advantage.
  • 15+ year’s relevant experience with sound knowledge in managing the engineering function.
  • Must have worked in CAN manufacturing line or a high-volume continuous manufacturing process.
  • Must have AutoCAD proficiency and good computer skills – ability to manage via computerized data.

 

COMPETENCIES & LANGUAGE SKILLS :

  • English, Hindi, Marathi (preferred) Local Language
  • Able to work under stress, deliver initiatives on time. Ability to prioritize workload based upon the plant requirements and objectives.
  • Good coordination skill and follow-up skill. Successful track record in man management in combination with proven record of task achievement
  • Be creative and proactive contributor on the management team, focused on identifying opportunities to continue improvement
  • Problem solving & total quality skills. Good understanding of modern lean manufacture technique - SMED, Kaizen 5S, Structured Problem Solving, TPM, Six Sigma etc.
