Position overview:
The Assistant Plant Manager supports the overall performance and operational excellence of a continuous operation manufacturing environment across 2 plants in India, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, cost, and sustainability targets are met. This role is part of a succession pipeline toward a future Plant Manager position, supporting the growth and expansion of the company’s plant footprint in India.
They assist in developing, engaging, and empowering teams, fostering a positive, high-performance culture and promoting continuous improvement across operations. This role supports compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards, coordinates with cross-functional teams, and helps drive plant efficiency to achieve organizational objectives.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Support overall plant performance across safety, quality, delivery, cost, and sustainability targets, ensuring alignment with operational and business objectives
- Drive a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with EHS programs, procedures, and KPIs
- Provide cross-functional support and oversight across production, engineering, maintenance, quality, and continuous improvement, collaborating closely with supply chain, finance, procurement, and HR
- Contribute to optimizing plant efficiency, productivity, and cost performance through continuous improvement initiatives and effective resource planning
- Ensure plant operations meet customer requirements, product specifications, and quality standards
- Support compliance with environmental regulations and internal policies
- Partner with Finance and Cost Control to support budget management, cost optimization, and operating plans
- Collaborate with other plants to drive benchmarking, standardization, and best practice sharing
- Initially operate as an individual contributor, with progression into people leadership responsibilities, including developing, coaching, and empowering teams
- Foster a high-performance, positive work culture, supporting employee engagement and strong working relationships
- Support employee relations, including collaboration with union representatives where applicable
- Contribute to cross-functional projects and initiatives to ensure high levels of internal and external customer service
- Maintain effective collaboration within a matrixed organization, ensuring strong communication and alignment across stakeholders
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (additional business or supply chain education is a plus
- Minimum 5+ years of leadership experience in manufacturing or industrial environments (FMCG preferred)
- Proven experience in manufacturing operations, production, engineering, or continuous improvement
- Strong people management and leadership capabilities across diverse teams
- Exposure to high-speed manufacturing or packaging environments is preferred
- Experience with Lean manufacturing tools and methodologies (SMED, Kaizen, 5S, Kanban, TPM/OEE, SPC, Six Sigma, etc.)
- Union experience is an advantage
- Fluent in English (Hindi is a plus)
