The Tactical Solutions Strategic Business Unit delivers mission system solutions, from specialized antennas to electro-optical technologies, to the warfighter. Our systems enhance the performance of various military platforms, from aircraft and land vehicles to ships and satellites, and give warfighters the advantage they need to take action, identify targets and defend against evolving threats.


Software Engineer II – Site Reliability (HPC)


Ball Aerospace Tactical Solutions Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software engineering, systems administration to build and run distributed, multi-classification and flexible software development environments to include building infrastructure and automation.  Ball Aerospace software development focuses on developing and delivering tactical mission systems and subsystems to DoD customers.


What You’ll Do:


  • Work side by side with software and hardware engineers to manage the tools and create the development environments as a member of the program teams. 
  • Integrate directly into engineering teams in development areas.
  • Work directly on Developer workstations with minimal remote management.
  • Develop and maintain VDIs and VMs for software developers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


What You’ll Need:


  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is required.
  • Understanding of distributed systems, specifically Kubernetes (K8, K3S) deployed on bare metal servers and embedded processors
  • Understanding of DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as code, including Helm, Terraform, and Ansible
  • Familiarity with VDIs and VMWare products
  • CI/CD tools such as Gitlab, Nexus, and Kubernetes
  • Integration of Linux systems into Windows AD domains
  • Understanding of High Powered Computing clusters used for physics based modeling and systems engineering application for modeling and simulation
  • DOD 8570 IAM level II certification (ex Security+)


Full-Time On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site full-time. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.


Verification that your current security clearance or government customer access meets the requirement for this position will be required.


Relocation for this position is available.


Direct Program Charge: 90%


Compensation & Benefits:


  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $104,500 - $139,960 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
  • Job Grade:  Aerospace O3
