<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">The Operations Strategic Support Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from technologies and investments to supply chain, manufacturing and test operations, facilities management, and information technology services.


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Engineer Principal – Manufacturing


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">What You’ll Do:


  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Provide support to development programs for RF antenna and / or RF electronic products in an advanced manufacturing / development work cell environment supporting latest technology military aircraft and / or missile platforms.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Provide principle level manufacturing engineering responsible engineer (RE) support for RF antenna / electronics systems in a development and transition-to-production environment.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Ensure design producibility.  Develop, refine, modify, or provide input into applications, processes, and devices as required to meet manufacturing and test requirements. Analyze statistical data, evaluate and implement improvements to meet contract/schedule/quality requirements.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Provide hands-on support for product and process development as part of a development team.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Works on complex technical problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Assume ownership for manufacturing schedules that meet program schedule milestones
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Coordinate design-to-cost activities; track cost impact from design changes; report accordingly to design teams
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Track and communicate lessons learned between new designs.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Provide leadership and direct program / project team operational execution in support of program goals.  May direct the activities of program manufacturing engineers, planners, and assembly / test technicians.  Promotes a team environment.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Work independently or in a team environment to resolve program issues using data- based root cause analysis; diligently applies firm corrective actions.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Demonstrates the ability to organize information, job tasks, and manage time for most efficient and “best value” performance.  Establishes personal objectives; sets expectations of self that are aligned with organizational and departmental goals
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Ensure that all manufacturing procedures and processes conform to Quality Business System (QBS) and/or contract requirements for quality and performance.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Develop and maintain manufacturing build instructions.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Maintain and control production tooling in accordance with QBS requirements.  Design and / or communicate tool design needs to tool design engineers.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Contribute to and / or present technical data in support of technical exchange meetings, design reviews, manufacturing readiness reviews, and program status reviews with program managers and customers.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including design development/test engineering, quality assurance, Supply Chain Management, process labs and outside suppliers.  Maintains excellent rapport with internal / external customers.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Understand and competently use in-house business systems including Manufacturing Execution System, manufacturing shop floor control, internal status reporting, and product data management system.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company.  Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Perform other duties as necessary<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">.


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">What You’ll Need:


  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">BS/BA degree or higher in Engineering or a related field is required plus 12 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Working Conditions:


  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
