The Tactical Solutions Strategic Business Unit delivers mission system solutions, from specialized antennas to electro-optical technologies, to the warfighter. Our systems enhance the performance of various military platforms, from aircraft and land vehicles to ships and satellites, and give warfighters the advantage they need to take action, identify targets and defend against evolving threats.
Chief Systems Engineer – Electro-Optical Systems Sector
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Advanced Systems Manager to lead solution architecture and development efforts and make significant contributions to business capture and program execution for active and passive electro-optical systems as part of the Ball Aerospace Tactical Solutions Strategic Business Unit, Imaging and Surveillance Mission Area.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide electro-optical system architecture and systems engineering leadership and subject matter expertise
- Understand customer mission gaps and values, and architect, develop, and deliver solutions to meet those needs consistent with required performance, timelines and budgets
- Develop and maintain customer contacts and relationships with government offices and prime contractors related to development and acquisition of active and passive EO sensors
- Initiate and lead business captures to include identifying potential customers, leading discovery phase and solution development activities, shaping opportunity and pursuit, and leading proposal development
- Develop execution plans including schedules, staffing, and cost
- Develop win themes and capture strategies, with consideration of competitive positioning
- Prepare and submit proposals, ROMS, RFI/RFQ responses, and white papers
- Manage new business indirect budget projects for assigned area
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.
What You’ll Need:
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 15 or more years related experience.
- MS or greater in Physics/Engineering/Systems or a related technical field is strongly preferred.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active Secret security clearance is required.
- Extensive experience in the design and development of EO/IR systems is required
- Demostrated experience in systems engineering processes, including requirements development, concept of operations, requirement allocation, change management, verification and validation is desirable
- Extensive knowledge of missions and customers across core EO technology application areas such as maritime, ground, and airborne situational awareness is desirable
- Program management experience is desirable
- Demostrated experience in all phases of program execution, including early planning, design reviews, manufacture, assembly, integration, test, compliance and certification, mission operation, and sustainment is desirable
- Outstanding presentation skills with documented presentation experience to senior decision makign and technical audiences
Full-Time On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site full-time. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $175,500 - $243,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
- Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
