Senior Enterprise Solutions Architect – Data


The Enterprise Data Architect defines the vision, strategy, and principles for data management across Information Technology solutions, and guides the strategy for the entire enterprise.   This position ensures, via plans, policies, principles, models, standards, and processes that information is treated as a strategic asset whereby the integration of data can deliver value and help align business priorities and technology.  The Enterprise Data Architect role establishes the architecture and frameworks that facilitate access to and flexible sharing and secured exchange of enterprise information.  This position leads effective change by understanding IT and business challenges, translating them into requirements and solutions, and leading change initiatives through effective collaboration with business and technical leaders.


What You’ll Do:


  • Solve business challenges via translating business needs to IT requirements, and leading project architectural design efforts to create efficient, standardized, yet innovative solutions.
  • Lead IT Data Management Strategy: Define how our structured and unstructured data will be stored, consumed, integrated, shared, and reported by different IT application systems to facilitate needed business capabilities.  Define and align data architecture to the overarching enterprise architecture.
  • Build the Enterprise Model:  In concert with the business Data Governance group, build the enterprise data model, standard vocabulary/taxonomy, define the strategy and principles for data quality management, data integration, security, and data archiving and retention.
  • Influence information strategy by partnering with business unit leadership, and through the rationalization of the information value chain, the information architect will provide strategic recommendations to maximize the value of information assets via their creation, access and use.
  • Collaborate with data and analytics leaders, data science and analytics specialists, information management staff, solution developers and business domain stakeholders, such as information managers, data stewards and business analysts.
  • Maximize value derived from data and analytics: Foster value creation using the organization's data assets, as well as the external data ecosystem. This includes aiding value creation through data exploitation, envisioning data-enabled strategies, as well as enabling all forms of business outcomes through analytics, data and analytics governance, and enterprise information policy.
  • Enable effective data and analytics governance: Suggest who can take what actions with what information, and under what circumstances. Assist data and analytics leaders, and business and IT leadership in developing information governance processes and structures.
  • Manage risk: Aid the definition of data classifications and data zoning to allow information assets to be immediately identified and proactively managed as more information becomes federated in a digital economy.
  • Enable enterprise information management: Ensure that the architecture is used as a lens and a filter to identify, prioritize and execute the data and analytic initiatives with clear line of sight to enterprise strategies and business outcomes.
  • Secure data and analytic assets: Aid in the analysis of data and analytics security requirements and solutions, and work with the Information Security team leads to ensure that enterprise data and analytics assets are treated as protected assets.
  • Improve EIM performance: Aid efforts to improve business performance through enterprise information solutions and capabilities, such as master data management (MDM), metadata management, analytics, content management, data integration, and related information management or information infrastructure components.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.  Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


What You’ll Need:


  • Related Bachelor’s and 15 or more years of related experience; or HS Diploma and 21 or more years of related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Associate’s, Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for additional years of experience.
  • Related certifications may count towards years of related experience.
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in IT, software development, database development, solutions architecture, and/or enterprise architecture.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis, advanced analytics, data visualization, big data and machine learning concepts.
  • In-depth experience of designing and implementing information solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with implementing data and analytics management programs is preferred.
  • System integration experience, including interface design, and familiarity with web-oriented architecture techniques.
  • Data modeling and information classification expertise at the enterprise level.
  • Understanding of common information architecture frameworks and information models.
  • Understanding of metamodels, taxonomies and ontologies, as well as of the challenges of applying structured techniques (data modeling) to less-structured sources.
  • Familiarity with data science concepts, as well as MDM, business intelligence, machine learning, and data warehouse design and implementation techniques.
  • Strong communication and persuasion skills, including the ability to create marketing and messaging materials that meet stakeholder needs.
  • Ability to analyze project, program and portfolio needs, as well as determine the resources needed to achieve objectives and overcome cross-functional barriers.
  • Knowledge of application lifecycle management (ALM), software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies, Agile, Waterfall, SCRUM, etc., and associated relevant toolsets such as software change management, version control, etc.
  • Demonstrated understanding of various database technologies (MS SQL Server, Oracle DB, etc.), data analytics and visualization technologies (Denodo, SAP Webi, Tableau, etc.), data integration technologies (MS BizTalk, MS SSIS, etc.) and reporting technologies (MS SSRS, SAP Business Objects, etc.)
  • Be an excellent communicator and collaborator, engaging with multiple technical and business stakeholders and leaders.
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to work independently and on own initiative.
  • Be organizationally savvy with a good understanding of the enterprise's political climate and how to navigate, influence, and persuade political waters.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, influence and persuade peers and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations.
  • Intellectual curiosity, humility, and integrity.


Hybrid Work Environment: This position may be performed working from both the office and another location, while typically requiring working in the office less than 3 days per work week. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:


  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $121,500 - $167,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
