The Systems Engineering Solutions Strategic Business Unit provides advanced systems engineering and technology applications for intelligence and information enterprises. These applications and solutions deliver enterprise data management, data analytics, modeling and simulation, and technology assessment capabilities that are used to create products that offer actionable information in support of warfighters and decision makers.


Program Manager II


Join a team of skilled engineers and scientists conducting leading edge human performance research for the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). In this full-time position, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team working to envision, build, test and transition revolutionary concepts for human-centered technologies and training methodologies.


What You’ll Do:


  • Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team of scientists and engineers performing research and development into tools and methodologies that enhance human-system performance in USAF systems.
  • Work with Air Force customers to understand research program needs, timelines, and budgets.
  • Staff research projects with the Ball and subcontractor labor necessary to meet program objectives.
  • Work with Ball contracts, subcontracts, project control, supply chain, human resources, and security personnel to coordinate and achieve successful execution of research programs.
  • Work with the Ball science and engineering leads to plan, track, and coordinate technical activities and status. 
  • Work with Ball Business Development staff to create, strategize, and pursue the evolution and transition developed technologies into adjacent and/or new programs.
  • Lead proposal development activities for continued and new research.
  • Regularly report program status and risk areas to Ball senior leadership.
  • Assist USAF in identifying end user communities and in securing external Air Force and DoD support and funding.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company.  Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


What You’ll Need:


  • BS/BA in related field plus 12 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Related program management experience.
  • Education, significant training, and/or certification in Program Management (e.g. MBA, PMP Certification, or similar).
  • Experience managing DoD-sponsored research programs.
  • Experience managing IDIQ contracts.
  • Experience managing CPFF and T&M type contracts.
  • Ability to interact with and lead diverse teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Ability to attain and maintain a security clearance is required. Active security clearance is preferred.
  • Prior military or Government experience is viewed favorably.


Working Conditions:


  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor. 
  • Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.


A current DoD clearance and/or SCI access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position, however applicant must be willing and eligible for submission within 60-90 days after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.  By applying to this position, you are agreeing to complete a National Security Clearance Pre-Screen Questionnaire to evaluate your general ability to obtain the required security clearance or government customer access associated with this position.

Compensation & Benefits:


  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $149,000 - $205,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
