Principal Systems Engineer – Agile Space Digital Ecosystem Architect


We are seeking a Digital Ecosystem Architect for the Agile Space R&D team. In this role, you will work across Agile Space and adjacent digital engineering groups to provide high level architecture, interface definitions, and alignment to a strategic roadmap.


What You'll Do:


  • Support Agile Space R&D technology development activities.
  • Help develop SW capability roadmaps and technology assessments to position Agile Space toward future opportunities.
  • Technically manage, define, and institutionalize the ecosystem that provides evidence of the achievability for a given collection segment architecture through working group engagement of necessary stakeholders:
  • To enable efficient demonstrations to prove the viability and credibility of the Digital Ecosystem architecture
  • Engage multiple working groups (MDP, Mission Modeling, MBSE, M&S Architecture) to optimize the interfaces (digital interfaces)
  • Create a plan for integrating the interfaces
  • Define and document interface recommendations/trades
  • Standardize data formats between APIs
  • Architect the configuration management system for the APIs
  • Work with the Agile Space R&D lab team to provide system level architecture for fully virtual and HWIL (HW in the loop) simulation/emulation environments.
  • Assess and provide recommendations for technology platforms for:
  • Scene generations (game engines, etc.)
  • Data movement and caching
  • Data processing in virtual and embedded systems
  • Infrastructure as code implementation, container orchestrations, and other control systems
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.  Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


What You'll Need:


  • BSdegree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 12 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e. Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Two years of related experience may be substituted for each year of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Strong background is software development for cloud and hybrid systems.
  • Broad knowledge of many development systems and languages, from front-end web tools and cloud to embedded systems.
  • Knowledge in relevant electronics HW to support advanced SW activities.
  • Experience developing and managing IRADs.
  • Knowledge in “traditional” aerospace SW methodologies and a desire to find new ways to meet aerospace missions with a more commercial mindset is desired, but previous aerospace industry experience is not required.
  • Excellent presentation skills to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong written communication and proposal writing skills.


Hybrid Work Environment: This position may be performed working from both the office and another location, while typically requiring working in the office less than 3 days per work week. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:


  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $145,500 - $183,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
