Engineer Senior – Mission Operations Systems Engineer Sustainment
Mission operations systems engineer in support of test, factory reach-back and operations and maintenance sustainment of space vehicle and ground systems for commercial, DoD, and NASA customers.
What You’ll Do:
- Support integration and testing of new capabilities for satellite and ground system.
- Interact with subject matter experts to develop operational command products, training material and tools for onsite operations personnel.
- Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.
- Be effective in working with people at all levels and with outside customers. Be able and willing to contribute wherever and however needed and provide leadership and guidance to program activities and senior level people.
- Understand the space field and ground system and the role it plays within overall segment, mission, and enterprise.
- Perform routine telemetry trending, mission performance analysis, calibration and maintenance of the satellite and ground system.
- Generate or update mission operations such as command execution scripts, alarm limit configuration files, mission system constraints, operator procedures, and operator training material with incorporation of lessons learned from on-orbit performance.
- Support the validation of operational product releases for space and ground systems using program test platforms such as simulators, test benches or Flatsat.
- Participate in on-orbit operations, assess satellite and ground system state of health, and assist with anomaly support.
- Oversee and guide the management of mission operations system requirements – allocation, verification, and validation.
- Functions in a project leadership role and guides successful completion for major programs.
- Prepare and give presentations to peers/management/customers.
- Support and help lead program gates as defined by customer, such as the Operations Acceptance Review (OAR), Initial Operations Capability (IOC) and Full Operations Capability (FOC).
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You’ll Need:
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active TS/SCI CI Polygraph security clearance is required.
- Knowledge of related disciplines in software engineering, hardware engineering, integration, test engineering, quality engineering, configuration/data management.
- Demonstrated experience of systems engineering roles and functions, including operations concept development, requirements management, functional analysis, interface definition and control, synthesis, and/or verification and validation.
- Demonstrated experience in operations processes such as discrepancy reporting, change management and anomaly response.
- Experience in mission management, command & control, mission data processing, ground terminal and infrastructure.
- Effective presentation skills with experience presenting technical results to senior leadership, customer, and technical reviews.
- Experience with on-console satellite operations and ground systems.
- Experience with ground or mission integration efforts including operations readiness activities, rehearsals and launch support activities.
- Experience with mission operations development such as command execution scripts, alarm limit management, mission system constraints, operator procedures, and operator training material preferred.
- Experience with development and conducting launch, initialization and handoff to operations personnel preferred.
- Experience with training of satellite operators preferred.
- Knowledge in cloud development environment preferred.
- Knowledge with requirements management tool such as DOORS preferred.
- Knowledge with Atlassian Tools such as Confluence and Jira preferred.
Full-Time On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site full-time. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $133,500 - $168,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
