Technical Specialist Associate – Equipment Reliability

 

Serve as the principal technician for overseeing serviceability of all assigned electronic lab and machine shop equipment. Perform complex functions related to inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, and sustainment of laboratory equipment and tools supporting engineering and manufacturing. Requires advanced application of both technical theory and practical knowledge involving electronics test equipment, electronics surface mount technology (SMT) assembly/inspection/test equipment, Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) equipment, and machine shop equipment (water jet, CNC machines, milling machines, lathes). Duties are typically more responsibility oriented (versus daily task oriented), performed with little to no oversight or prioritization by a higher authority, sophisticated and unique in nature, and vary greatly in breadth and depth of content during day-to-day operations.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Design, test, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, precision instruments, and/or mechanisms, for research & development projects.
  • Schedule, perform and document periodic preventative equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment; report equipment issues, statuses, and corrective action plans to management.
  • Prioritize emergency repair conflicts with the scheduling and production teams.
  • Coordinate commercial service visits to facilitate access, facility access and escort while in client premises.
  • Track and monitor calibrated equipment; coordinate with appropriate service provider for test inspection, calibration, and repair.
  • Periodically inspect, test and document Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) support equipment, ionizers and humidity measurement systems.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and historical documentation, required logs, records, and reports in accordance with Ball Aerospace policies/procedures and government regulations.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support for tool/equipment inventory control utilizing Soaring Software’s TCMAX Asset Management Suite.
  • Liaison between RDTE team and client’s IT department; initiating, monitoring and coordinating equipment-related IT issues.
  • Maintain inventory of commercial software to include: installation location, license assignments, license expirations, installed version and upgrade/update availability.
  • Review and accurately interpret schematics, drawings, specifications, and procedures for completeness and compliance to contract requirements.
  • Contribute to written and oral proposals and design reviews, internal review boards, specifications, work standards, and business processes.
  • Provide advanced instruction and training on specialized procedures and techniques to other employees, and may develop processes and procedures essential to departmental compliance.
  • Maintain a company purchase card in accordance with Ball Aerospace policies and processes to rapidly procure commercial-of-the shelf items supporting labratory and machine shop operations.
  • Assist Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) personnel with X-Ray radiation survey management.
  • Support lab HAZAMAT Initial Accumulation Point (IAP) managers with inventory, inspections, new authorization documentation, shelf-life monitoring, and HAZWASTE turn-in.
  • Make continuous improvement suggestions, participate and lead projects in area of responsibility.
  • Effective communications and regular interaction with higher-level management, customers, and internal and external auditors.
  • Plan and commit resources, coordinate and lead the work of lower-level employees to assure task completion.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

 

What You’ll Need:

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 10 years or more related experience or a related 2-year technical degree and 8 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Bachelor’s or Master’s, may substitute for two years of related experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

 

Full-Time On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site full-time. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Direct Program Charge: 95%

 

Compensation & Benefits:

 

  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $30.29 - $40.38 per hour (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
