Engineer II – Mechanical Engineer

 

In this role, you will support a cross-functional team in the design, fabrication, test, and integration of electronics subsystems. The cross-functional team could include but is not limited to engineers in the following disciplines: Electrical Systems, Electronic Circuit Design, Parts & Reliability, Radiation, Production, and Test Engineers.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Interpret customer specifications and requirements to develop high reliability electronics integration, cost, and manpower estimates.
  • Effort includes design for production, CAD modeling, design analysis, fabrication plans, and occasional drafting and integration and test support.
  • Responsible for meeting cost, schedule, and technical requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks and communicate consequences.
  • Provide and communicate understanding of the technical aspects of a project to the project team as well as the customer.
  • Innovate through introducing new ideas and procedures.
  • Design, develop, and validate new electronics packaging solutions.
  • Create and direct development of CAD models and part drawings
  • Plan, direct, and complete unit testing and validation.
  • Identify ideal materials including adhesives, plastics, metals, paints, etc.
  • Solve manufacturing issues (assembly, machining, etc.), quality issues (dimensional, material, and design discrepancies, etc.), and purchasing issues (vendor qualification, engineering support, etc.).
  • Perform dimensional and tolerance analysis, dynamic strength analysis, and thermal analysis as needed.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

 

What You’ll Need:

 

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field plus 5 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience in design/development of electronics packaging.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks modeling and simulation.
  • Familiarity with metal shop fabrication / machine shop practices desired.
  • CNC and manual machining experience desired.
  • A working knowledge of military specifications and standards strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with MasterCAM software desired.
  • Experience with composites and adhesives strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M desired.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to exercise them in a technical environment.
  • Able to provide alternatives to requirements that drive system cost and schedule.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and conflict management skills, and an ability to lead group discussions.

 

Hybrid Work Environment: This position may be performed working from both the office and another location, while typically requiring working in the office less than 3 days per work week. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Direct Program Charge: 100%

 

Compensation & Benefits:

 

  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $102,000 - $127,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
