Electro-Optics Test Engineer I

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Research, design and develop high-energy solid-state laser experiments.
  • Apply technical expertise to identify best technical solutions to complex multi-disciplinary laser engineering and laser target interaction problems.
  • Implement design and engineering developmental plans to meet project objectives under supervision of senior staff and scientists.
  • Routinely work in a laboratory with lasers, amplifiers, instrumentation, diagnostics, and optical hardware for integration and testing of designed high energy laser hardware.
  • Develop optical models in Optics Studio, Code V or other industry-accepted optical design tools to optimize optical designs on an as needed basis.
  • Generate specifications for hardware, interact with vendors and suppliers to assist with the procurement of designed hardware.
  • Collaboratively work in team setting with lead developers, designers and experimentalists on the project.
  • Conduct laser performance characterization experiments under guidance of Senior Scientists and engineers.
  • Develop quality documentation of work products such as integration plans, test plans for review by Senior staff and make changes based on corrective feedback.
  • Provide technical advice to more-junior personnel.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

 

What You’ll Need:

 

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Proven skills in working with high-energy lasers and all relevant laser diagnostic instrumentation and hardware.
  • Knowledge of related disciplines such as electrical engineering, optical engineering, material science.
  • Experience in laser system design, development, and performance testing.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a laboratory environment with lasers.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems that requires the use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in team or individual environment. Demonstrated ability to influence outcome of project through trade-space analysis and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to give technical presentations and provide written reports and documentation.

 

Full-Time On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site full-time. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Compensation & Benefits:

 

  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $93,000 - $115,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
